Teamwork Respect Enjoyment Discipline Sportsmanship

Midsomer Norton RFC has taken the pledge and signed up to Quilter Kids First Rugby

This is a new approach to rugby for the U7 to U13 age groups which puts children at the heart of rugby activity at clubs and schools across the country.

Its aim is to;

  • Put children at the heart of everything they do and all decisions they make

  • Encourage fun on the pitch, through equal opportunity and realistic expectations of children

  • Develop children’s confidence and character as players and as people, challenging any behaviour that conflicts with this

  • Build adults’ skills to provide a safe, healthy, respectful and enjoyable environment for children

  • Champion rugby’s core values, inspiring a lifelong bond between children, adults and rugby.

This new approach is part of a wider programme called Age Grade Rugby, led by the RFU, which came into force in September.

What is Age Grade Rugby?

It is a player centred, development driven and competition supported approach to 6-18 year old rugby, underpinned by the wants and needs of young players.

Why was there need for change?

These changes will address the findings from the Age Grade Competition Review which found that there was:

  • A lack of clarity of the competition pathway for young players

  • Conflict between club, school, college and representative competition structure and calendar

  • Overplaying of the talented players and underplaying of the less able players

  • Over emphasis on winning and picking better players to achieve this
